I wanted to summarize the ideals of the Sharon Statement given by the YAF or Young Americans for Freesom in the 1960s in the United States.  This was a conservative organization and was ran mainly by college students and high school students.

The Sharon Statement
· The Sharon Statement is analogous to the Port Huron Statement of SDS in the realm that it was given by students who were standing up for their political beliefs, but on the political scale they could not be further apart.
· It is the job of the youth of the United States to help maintain

order and “certain eternal truths”
· Was written by M. Stanton Evans on William Buckley’s estate in Sharon, Connecticut.
· Many believe that the Sharon Statement given by the Young Americans
for Freedom(YAF) was the beginning of modern day conservatism in the United States.
· It includes religion wording very early on, which into the adherence to the morality of the Christian faith in the Republican party.

he purpose of government is to protect its citizens.
· Tampering with the free market lessens the integrity of our economic system and problems with the market should be worked out on its own.
· Communism is the greatest enemy of the United States and our victory over it should be stressed, rather than just peace coexistence.
